Freedom Starts With the Choice to Be Willing

We talk a lot about freedom in the health world. Freedom from pain, from diets, from burnout, from disconnection. But if we’re being honest, freedom doesn’t usually come as some grand moment of arrival. Freedom comes from the small actions that we take everyday. It comes from our small, seemingly ordinary decision to say, “I’m willing to try.”

When I first meet people who are looking to join us in the gym or work with me in our health coaching program, our first discussion is always their goals and what they are currently doing. In this moment, I know that I am speaking to the vulnerable part that is in all of us. It is the same part that tells us to move forward, and that we are willing to try the next step.

The thing is, there’s a difference between taking the next step and feeling fully ready.

You don’t need to be ready.

I see this a lot. People wait to feel “ready” to start:

  • Ready to commit

  • Ready to meal prep

  • Ready to lift again

  • Ready to feel confident walking into a gym

But the truth? Readiness is a myth. Life rarely hands you the perfect moment to begin. You’ll always have stress, schedules, distractions, or financial obligations competing for your attention. What matters more than being “ready” is being willing. There will be days that are harder than others or periods of time where it is more challenging to show up for yourself. These are the times that truly matter that you do show up.

Willing to show up tired

Willingness is the vulnerability that we speak about. The willingness to ask for help is the first step in this journey. Oftentimes asking for help is the hardest part, and the rest gets so much easier. But there are other areas where willingness is so important.

Willing to feel awkward. Willing to be coached. Willing to try something new. Willing to make yourself a priority again.

Whether it’s stepping into your first Movement Lab class, scheduling your health coaching consult, or finally getting that nagging shoulder looked at—freedom begins when you decide your health is worth the effort.

That doesn’t mean going all-in overnight. It might look like:

  • Swapping one processed meal a day for real food

  • Drinking water before coffee

  • Re-learning how to squat or hinge properly

  • Walking 5 minutes between Zoom calls

  • Breathing deeply when you want to scroll

  • Trusting your coach enough to show up and move

The real transformation happens in the little, brave decisions you make daily.

When you start living like your body matters and when you reconnect with movement, food, and rest as tools for freedom, you start to change the trajectory of your health.

And you don’t have to do it alone. That’s what we’re here for.

So if you’re reading this, and you’ve been waiting for the right time to start... stop waiting. You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need all the answers. You just need to be willing.

Let’s take that first step—together.
